As founder and CEO of telecommunications consulting firm SplinterRock, Tom has an extensive background providing technology, non-profit, and economic development services. For over 10 years, Tom worked at EarthLink, beginning in its start-up phase, then as VP of Engineering, and ultimately creating their Voice business (VoIP) that grew to a $50 million business in one year.

Tom also has a lifetime of commitment to non-profit causes, including as founding president of the board of Pomona Hope (which now runs a community center, after-school program, computer lab, community-organizing effort, and job creation/economic development program in partnership with the city of Pomona and for-profit businesses, and provides housing services together with Habitat for Humanity) and, for 13 years, with Servant Partners, an international organization working for holistic community transformation in the world's poorest slums.

He currently serves on the boards of both Pomona Hope and Servant Partners and is an elder at First Presbyterian Church of Pomona.
